Varsity Intercollegiate Dinghy Sailing Team

Rounding A Mark
                                             Rounding A Mark

For Immediate Release:
March 13, 2020 2:00pm EDT
Effective immediately, The Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Executive Committee has voted to cancel the remaining 2019-2020 College Sailing season, this includes all in-conference, promotional, Interconference, and National Championship competitions. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to the spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of scheduling and hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.
Further guidance for teams and student athletes will be forthcoming.
 Mitch Brindley
President, Intercollegiate Sailing Association

In the extracurricular arena, the Varsity Intercollegiate Dinghy Sailing Team is the most decorated varsity team at the Academy. Kings Point sailors are accomplished competitors. The USMMA competes against colleges and universities throughout the United States, and is consistently ranked in the Top 20. The two-season sport runs from September through November and February through June.

In 2019, the Varsity Intercollegiate Dinghy Team participated in 40 regattas hosted 7 events.   The teams belong to Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA). MAISA covers the area between New York State and Virginia and includes the District of Columbia and parts of Canada.  Hundreds of sailors compete on more than forty teams that travel across the conference and the country.  Some of these teams are from the top sailing schools in the country:  Harvard, Yale, Brown, Georgetown, Dartmouth, Navy, Coast Guard, St. Mary's, Hobart & William Smith, Pennsylvania. plus local teams from Fordham and SUNY Maritime.
